Passport for Hajj Tour
It is mandatory for passengers participating in the Hajj tour to have a valid passport. For Hajj visa and Saudi Arabia entry procedures, the passport must have a sufficient validity period from the travel date. In general practice, it is recommended that the passport be valid for at least 1 year for Hajj and Umrah travels.
It is important that the passport is chipped, undamaged, and readable. Problems may be encountered in visa and travel procedures with old, damaged, passports with torn pages or insufficient validity.
How to Get a Passport?
Passport applications are made by appointment through the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs. The appointment process can be carried out online or via the Alo 199 Call Center. On the day of application, it is necessary to go to the population directorate where the appointment was made, along with the required documents.
Passport Application Steps
1. Appointment Booking
An appointment must be made first for the passport application. Passport appointment can be created with T.R. ID number from anywhere in Turkey. Appointment procedures can be made through the Population and Citizenship Affairs appointment system or through the AlO 199 line.
Ordinary, that is, burgundy passport applications are made to the provincial and district civil registry offices. Private and service stamped passport applications are received from the provincial directorates of population and citizenship.
2. Biometric Photo Preparation
A biometric photograph taken within the last 6 months is required for application. The photo must comply with passport standards. Old, retouched photos with inappropriate backgrounds or photos that do not fit biometric measurements may not be accepted.
3. Payment of Passport Fee and Booklet Cost
Before applying for a passport, the passport fee and booklet fee must be paid. Payments can be made through contracted banks, PTT branches, tax offices, or the digital payment channels of the Revenue Administration.
Ordinary passport fees and booklet costs for the year 2026 are as follows: 1-year passport total 5,454.00 TL, 2-year passport total 8,049.50 TL, 3-year passport total 10,867.00 TL, 10-year passport total is 14,761.40 TL. 6-month passport total is 4,157.50 TL; however, for Hajj travel, at least a 1-year passport should be preferred instead of a short-term passport.
Note: Passport fees may change every year. Therefore, before applying, the current fee and booklet costs should be checked from the official Civil Registry and Citizenship Affairs appointment screen.
4. Go to the Civil Registry Office on the Appointment Day
On the appointment date, the applicant must be present at the relevant civil registry office before the appointment time. During the application, identity document, biometric photo, payment information and old passport, if any, are submitted. Civil registry offices require the original of the identity document in passport applications.
Documents Required for Passport Application
The following documents are generally required for passport application:
Valid Turkish identity card, identity card or temporary identity document, biometric photo taken in the last 6 months, passport fee and information that the book price has been paid, old passport, if any. Consent may also be required for minors and restricted persons.
Passport Types
- Maroon passport.
It is known as a public passport. It is the standard passport type used by citizens of the Republic of Turkey for general travel. The most commonly used passport type in Hajj and Umrah tours is burgundy passport.
Green Passport
It is known as a private passport. It is given to public officials, pensioners and right holders who meet certain degrees and conditions.
Gray Passport
It is known as a service passport. It is regulated within the scope of the term of office and legislation for the persons sent abroad on official duty.
Black Passport
It is known as a diplomatic passport. It is given to persons with diplomatic status and senior officials specified in the relevant legislation.
Important Notice for Pilgrim Travelers
Passport duration must be checked before applying for a pilgrimage tour. Passengers with insufficient passport time may not be able to process visas or there may be problems during the travel process. For this reason, it is recommended that people planning a pilgrimage check their passports early, renew their passports that are about to expire and do not leave the application process to the last day.
